If you're looking for the best air purifiers for pets, what you find
at Walmart, Petco, Petsmart or other stores isn't going to be what
you're looking for. True, you might find an air cleaner that is low
cost, but they're usually cheaply made and simply don't have the air
cleaning power of a pet air purifier. These cheap air cleaners usually
don't have the same type of quality HEPA filters, not enough carbon to
do anything about odors, really, and a fairly low output rate. And a
low output means that the unit won't be able to cycle or 'breathe' all
of the dander, hair, & odors before you do. And that means the air
cleaner will actually have very little effect on reducing allergies
& pet odors.
If you have pets or have allergies, what you're
looking for is an air cleaner that is effective at removing the allergy
& odor-causing pollutants-and hopefully one that is affordable but
still built to last. The only place to find that combination of
performance and value is with air scrubbers that are designed that way,
such as the Aller Air 4000 Vocarb or any of their 4000, 5000, or 6000
Vocarb series. Or, the Austin Pet Machine is also a great unit. Both of
these air cleaners come with effective HEPA filters that remove well
over 99% of the dander, hair, dust and other particles that cause the
majority of allergy attacks.
Plus, both of these air scrubbers
come with a lot of pet odor-absorbing carbon (anywhere from 12-28
pounds) that truly captures the odor molecules so you don't breathe
them.
And-the output on these units is powerful, anywhere from 400 CFM
and up. That means these units will remove over 99% of dander &
odors in a room in about 2 minutes flat. Yes, the better units are
going to cost probably 50-75% more, but you probably won't have to buy
another pet air purifier, ever. And, you'll get allergy &
respiratory relief you can count on, every day.
Why aren't Aller
Air or Austin sold in major stores? From my personal experience in
retail, it's probably because the quality features and air cleaning
power required to make an air purifier that is effective for use with
pets increases the cost of production and that doesn't leave as much
room for as much profit as these big stores would like to have, i.e. the
manufacturer won't sell it to them as cheap as they want so the big
stores don't buy it. So the big stores buy cheaper units that don't
work as well or last, but they make a big profit on and try to sell it
to you as 'the best' air purifier. Sorry guys-the truth is out, the
cheap air cleaners just don't do the job. Forget it.
By the way,
there is one electronic air cleaner with no HEPA filter that gives you
very close to HEPA performance, but no filter to change and that is the
Stadler Form Viktor with its HPP Technology. This is the ONLY electronic
air purifier we recommend. Most electronic units, like Oreck, don't
perform as well, make too much noise, and produce ozone, which is
harmful. Again--sorry guys, but people are finding out now about Oreck
and the fact that there are far better air purifiers for the money.
